Maurice Gibbons--Walkabout Self-Directed Learning Idea

Through my The Adult Learner class and studies at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, I was introduced to the ideas and theories of Maurice Gibbons. One of his concepts for development in Adult Education is the idea of the Walkabout. When we think of the term "Walkabout," we think of the Aborigine culture in Australia. What if the idea of being sent off into the world to learn and grow and then to come back, share what you have learned for the betterment of the community is part of he Rite of Passage for young adults into mature adulthood? How would that impact education and our views associated with it? Please follow the link and comment on or share your thoughts...
